HH-CAHPS Press, News, and Updates

12/16/2009 - A final list of fields required for the HHCAHPS surveys will not be available until mid-January. We recently sent an email to CMS asking when the finalized list will be available including OASIS-C fields, and they replied with the following:
Thank you for your inquiry. The reference to the OASIS items in both OASIS B and OASIS C will be included in Chapter IV of the revised Protocols and Guidelines Manual (Version 2.0), which will be posted on the project website in mid-January 2010. Regards, Home Health Care CAHPS Survey Coordination Team

11/18/2009 - Pinnacle has launched a new blog at http://hhcahps.blogspot.com. This is offered as a way to keep Home Health professionals aware of HH-CAHPS requirements, timelines, and updates.

11/06/2009 - CMS has extended the deadlines for participation in the HH-CAHPS survey program. In a document outlining the final rules for HH-CAHPS they have listed the following reasons: "CMS has carefully considered the comments it received, and is delaying the linkage of HH-CAHPS data to the quality reporting requirements for the annual payment update by 6 months. This will allow home health agencies to first fully implement OASIS-C before being required to implement the HH-CAHPS survey for payment considerations. As such, agencies will be required to do a dry run for at least one month in third quarter CY 2010, and to begin data collection on an ongoing basis in October 2010."

10/23/2009 - This announcement is to alert you that, based on feedback from home health care agencies, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has changed the patient eligibility criteria for the Home Health Care CAHPS Survey as indicated below. Only patients whose home health care is paid by Medicare and Medicaid will be included in the Home Health Care CAHPS Survey. This means that patients whose home health care is paid solely by sources other than Medicare or Medicaid, such as private health insurance, the Department of Veterans Affairs, TRICARE, etc., are not eligible to participate in the Home Health Care CAHPS Survey. Patients with payers in addition to Medicare or Medicaid are eligible. Agencies may conduct the survey for these other patient groups, but the survey data would not be reported to CMS. 10/20/2009 - The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule to update the Medicare Home Health Prospective Payment (HH PPS) rates for calendar year (CY) 2010. This proposed rule contains details about the implications of CAHPS for Home Health Agencies (HHA). Click here to learn more.
